GIR–SASAN · GUJARAT · WILDLIFE

Gir, with
the right permit.

A wildlife stay, not a rushed Somnath add-on. Book the jungle trail first, keep Devalia as a separate alternative, and give yourself enough time for one calm safari or two sensible drives.

01 No false promisesWildlife sighting is never guaranteed. This guide plans the permit, reporting time and forest experience—not a promised lion photo.
02 Official booking firstGir Jungle Trail requires an e-permit. Vehicle and guide charges are separate, so do not trust “confirmed safari” agents selling unclear packages.
03 Built for your timeOne drive works for a short visit; two drives are better for people staying overnight. Devalia is an alternative, not an extra safari to force in.

FIRST, CHOOSE YOUR PACE

How much time do you have?

Book the forest first, then select your stay. A safari permit decides the practical plan—not a hotel itinerary or a random list of nearby places.

YOUR READY ROUTE

Forest time first.
Everything else later.

Do not arrive from Somnath, travel back the same day and expect a relaxed safari. Build this around the permit’s assigned reporting time and stay in the Sasan area.

PLAN A · ONE SAFARI

A short Gir visit, done properly

Best when you get one confirmed Jungle Trail permit. Reach Sasan before the reporting time, carry the exact original ID, and leave room for the forest department’s check-in process.

1 safari Minimum good plan

BEFORE THE DRIVE

  1. BOOK Use the official portal onlyOnline booking opens up to three months before the date. Enter every visitor’s ID details carefully; the registered person cannot simply be replaced later.
  2. REPORT Reach the assigned reception earlyCarry the original Aadhaar, driving licence, voter ID or passport used for booking. Keep all visitors together at reporting.

AFTER THE DRIVE

  1. SAFARI Follow the allotted routeRoute and related information are given at reporting. The permit does not guarantee a lion sighting, so enjoy the whole dry-forest landscape and guide’s interpretation.
  2. REST Keep the rest of the day openReturn to your Sasan stay, eat nearby and avoid adding a long Somnath, Diu or Junagadh drive on the same safari day.

PLAN B · ONE NIGHT, TWO DRIVES

The balanced wildlife plan

Choose this only if you can get two official permits. A morning and evening safari let you experience two different forest windows without racing through the destination.

1–2 nights Best for safari lovers
DAY 1

Arrive + evening safari

Check in near Sasan, complete the reporting process, then keep the evening after the drive quiet. No night safari is implied or promised.

DAY 2

Morning safari + leave

Take the confirmed morning drive, have breakfast, then depart. This is far better than forcing both safari and a long transfer into one day.

DEVALIA OPTION

Use it instead, not automatically too

GIZ Devalia is a separate interpretation-zone visit and stays closed every Wednesday. Consider it only when it fits your permit and time.

RouteSathi rule: Book only confirmed official slots. Never pay an agent a premium for a claimed “Tatkal” Gir permit—the official portal warns that urgent/Tatkal bookings are not available.

KEEP EXPECTATIONS CLEAR

Gir choices,
without confusion.

The main Jungle Trail and Devalia are not the same experience. Pick one based on your permit and time instead of selling travellers an unrealistic “everything in one day” package.

MAIN WILDLIFE DRIVE

Gir Jungle Trail

Forest safari with the official e-permit, assigned route and reporting process. This is the priority for a first wildlife-focused stay.

INTERPRETATION ZONE

GIZ Devalia

A different, shorter alternative with separate booking rules. It is closed every Wednesday; check live availability before treating it as your backup.

DON'T ADD RANDOMLY

Somnath & Diu

They are separate trips. Combine only when you have extra days and confirmed transfers—not because a map makes them look close.

SEASON MATTERS

Monsoon closure

Gir Jungle Trail is normally closed from 16 June to 15 October. Always check the current official notice before booking transport or a stay.

PLAN LIKE A RESPONSIBLE VISITOR

Sleep close.
Book honestly.

Sasan ke reporting area ke paas stay rakho, permit details ko photo ID se match karo, aur guide/vehicle payment ka budget alag rakho. Safari ko schedule ka centre banao.

WHERE TO STAY

Stay near Sasan

Choose a stay close enough that early reporting is calm. Remote resort “views” are not useful if you risk arriving late for a permit.

Find stays in Maps ↗
WHAT TO CARRY

Original ID, essentials

Carry the original ID used in the e-permit, water and sun protection. Follow the guide’s instructions and avoid loud behaviour around wildlife.

BUDGET CLEARLY

Permit is not the full cost

The official rules state that guide and safari-vehicle charges are separate from the e-permit. Confirm the official components before paying.
