Before you go / निकलने से पहलेShatrunjaya is a living Jain pilgrimage, not a casual hill viewpoint. The climb is more than 3,750 stone steps; start only after checking current access and temple rules, carry water, dress respectfully and keep the entire day for the hill.
PALITANA · GUJARAT
A sacred climb, given its time.
Hundreds of Jain temples crown Shatrunjaya Hill above Palitana. The right plan begins before sunrise, keeps the summit unhurried and never treats a 3,750-step pilgrimage as a rushed day-trip add-on.
01No zig-zagShatrunjaya Hill is the whole day. Do not pair its climb with Bhavnagar, a distant temple or a long onward drive.
02Respect the pilgrimageAccess, footwear, food, dress and photography rules can change. Follow current instructions at the base and inside the complex.
03Built for your timeOne day works with a nearby stay and early start. Two days gives the climb a proper arrival and recovery buffer.
FIRST, CHOOSE YOUR PACE
How many days do you have?
Palitana’s value is the climb and the temple complex, not a long list of stops. Choose the plan that lets you walk at a respectful, comfortable pace.
Gujarat Tourism and Incredible India describe Shatrunjaya as one of Jainism’s holiest pilgrimage hills, with hundreds of temples and a climb of more than 3,750 stone steps. This route protects the energy and time that experience needs.
PLAN A · ONE DAY
The complete Shatrunjaya day
Use this only when you slept in Palitana or close by the night before. Begin early, move at your own pace, explore a focused part of the summit complex and descend with daylight and energy to spare.

PILGRIMAGE · PREPARE FIRST
Check current access and rules at the base
Confirm the day’s entry and temple guidance locally. The climb, crowd, weather and religious practices decide the pace; use footwear, dress, food and photography rules as the site currently asks.
Start when conditions and access allow, use regular water and rest breaks, and do not treat the climb as a race. The summit journey itself is part of the pilgrimage experience.
Choose a focused route through the complex, including Adinath Temple and Chaumukhji Tunk if current access and your pace allow. Hundreds of temples cannot be “completed” in one hurried visit.
Leave enough energy and daylight for the descent. Eat and recover after returning to town; do not schedule a long drive or another hill immediately after the pilgrimage.
This is the RouteSathi recommendation. Day 1 brings you to Palitana, lets you confirm the next morning’s arrangements and sleep early; Day 2 belongs fully to Shatrunjaya Hill.

DAY 2 · Shatrunjaya Hill

SummitAdinath + Chaumukhji focusExplore a meaningful part of the temple complex without chasing every tunk.
LaterDescent with marginLeave energy and daylight for the return.
EveningRecover or stay another nightPlan your onward travel only after a real rest break.
Add a third day only when you want an independent Bhavnagar or Saurashtra road day. Palitana needs space before and after the climb—not a crowded checklist on the same afternoon.
3 daysSlow plan
DAY 1
Arrive + prepare
Stay near the base and protect the next morning’s energy.
DAY 2
Shatrunjaya pilgrimage
Make the full day about the climb and temple complex.
DAY 3
One separate road day
Continue to Bhavnagar or another Saurashtra stop only with a fresh start.
Why three days can help:A long climb plus an onward road trip is rarely the best memory. A recovery buffer makes the pilgrimage more comfortable and respectful.
EXPLORE WITH RESPECT
More of the hill, not more rushing.
These are meaningful parts of the Shatrunjaya experience. Choose them by current access and your energy—not because a checklist says you should see everything.
PRIMARY SHRINE · SUMMIT
Adinath Temple
One of the most important shrines in the complex. Give it quiet, respectful time rather than treating it as a photo stop.
Palitana ko “half-day temple stop” mat samjho. Nearby stay, early start, water, patience aur current temple instructions is guide ke most important parts hain.
WHERE TO STAY
Stay near the foot of the hill
A Palitana-area stay makes the early ascent practical. Bhavnagar can be your larger transport base, but keep the return road separate from the climb day whenever you can.
More than 3,750 steps need preparation. Carry water, start early when current access allows, take rest breaks and decide honestly whether the full climb suits your comfort level that day.
Temple policies and visitor arrangements are site-specific. At Kartik Purnima, Gujarat Tourism notes that crowds and accommodation demand rise sharply; book early and follow on-site guidance.
