Before you go / निकलने से पहलेSomnath Temple has strict security rules: mobiles, cameras, smartwatches and other electronic devices are not allowed inside. Use the cloakroom, carry only essentials, and recheck the day’s darshan/aarti schedule before leaving. Festival days need extra queue time.
RouteSathi guide update: 1 September 2026 · Timings, security rules, entry conditions and local transport can change, so verify before travelling.

SOMNATH · GUJARAT

Somnath,
without the hurry.

Start with the Jyotirlinga, keep Triveni Sangam on the same nearby side, then take one calm ride to Bhalka Tirth. Stay overnight only when evening aarti or the light-and-sound show matters to you.

01 No zig-zagSomnath Temple and Triveni Sangam are kept together first; Bhalka Tirth comes later in one direct town-side ride.
02 Real time blocksDarshan mornings, the quieter afternoon for nearby pilgrimage stops, then one meaningful sunset/aarti choice—no random long detours.
03 Built for your timeOne day is enough for Somnath itself. Gir/Devalia is a separate wildlife journey, not something to squeeze into this route.

FIRST, CHOOSE YOUR PACE

How much time do you have?

Somnath is a pilgrimage-first destination. A good plan leaves time for security, darshan and stillness; it is not improved by adding a safari or every nearby attraction in the same day.

YOUR READY ROUTE

Darshan first.
Nearby tirths later.

Somnath Temple and Triveni Sangam are close enough for one calm morning. Bhalka Tirth is best kept for the afternoon so you are not leaving the main temple area before your primary darshan is complete.

PLAN A · ONE MEANINGFUL DAY

Somnath, properly experienced

The recommended first-time plan. It gives darshan its proper time, keeps the nearby Sangam separate from the temple security flow, and uses one direct cab/auto block for Bhalka rather than repeated town crossings.

1 full day Best first visit

MORNING · Darshan + nearby shore

  1. 06:00 Somnath Temple darshanThe Trust currently lists darshan from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM and morning aarti at 7:00 AM. Recheck before travelling and deposit prohibited electronics at the cloakroom.
  2. 09:00 Breakfast near your stay / temple sideDo this only after darshan. Keep your phone collection and security procedure in mind before setting off again.
  3. 10:30 Triveni SangamThe confluence is about 1.5 km south of Somnath Temple according to the district administration. Use an auto/cab or walk only if the heat and your comfort allow.

AFTERNOON + EVENING · Bhalka side, then return

  1. 13:00 Lunch near Prabhas Patan / your stayEat before the town-side outing. Do not chase a far-away restaurant when Bhalka is your next fixed stop.
  2. 15:00 Bhalka TirthUse one auto/cab ride for this Krishna pilgrimage stop. It belongs after the temple and Sangam side—not between your morning darshan blocks.
  3. 18:30 Return for sunset or evening aartiChoose one: coastal pause near the temple, 7:00 PM aarti, or dinner. If the official light-and-sound show is your priority, keep this evening clear.

PLAN B · ONE NIGHT, NO EXTRA RUSH

Stay for the evening experience

Do not create a fake second day. Use the same one-day route, stay near the temple side, then choose evening aarti or the official light-and-sound programme when it is operating. Leave the following morning at an easy pace.

1 night Only if evenings matter
EVENING AARTI

Keep a clear return

The Trust lists evening aarti at 7:00 PM. On busy days, arrive with buffer and treat it as your main evening plan rather than adding another long outing.

LIGHT + SOUND

Check seasonal operation

The official Trust lists a nightly show, with exceptions during monsoon/rainy conditions. Check the current time and availability on the same day before planning dinner around it.

NEXT MORNING

Leave calmly

Use the extra morning for a final darshan only if it is meaningful to you. Do not make a rushed detour to Gir or Diu just because you have checked out.

RouteSathi rule: Somnath is complete in one full day. Stay a night for devotion and the evening atmosphere; make Gir/Devalia a separate future wildlife plan.

DO NOT MISS THESE

More of Somnath,
when you have time.

These work only when your darshan is already complete. Your visit will feel better with fewer meaningful stops than with a rushed list of every shrine in the area.

SACRED CONFLUENCE

Triveni Sangam

The Hiran, Kapila and Saraswati are traditionally believed to meet the Arabian Sea here. Keep it paired with the temple side—not as a far-away day trip.

KRISHNA PILGRIMAGE

Bhalka Tirth

A distinct pilgrimage stop in Prabhas Patan. Go in one afternoon cab/auto block after your main Somnath and Sangam visits.

TEMPLE-SIDE SUNSET

Vallabh Ghat

Keep the sea-facing temple-side sunset for the evening after Bhalka. It is a pause, not another cross-town checklist item.

HERITAGE OPTION

Prabhas Patan Museum

Use this only if it is open and you have a genuine museum interest. Do not let it displace your main darshan or evening plan.

PLAN LIKE A LOCAL

Stay, eat & pray
with less confusion.

Somnath mein temple-side base choose karo, darshan ke baad hi phone/food schedule set karo, aur Bhalka ke liye one direct afternoon ride rakho. Isse aapka day peaceful aur practical dono rahega.

WHERE TO STAY

Choose your base

Temple / Prabhas Patan side: morning darshan and evening return ke liye best. Veraval side: train/transport convenience ke liye useful, but temple visit ke liye cab/auto buffer rakhein.

FOOD BY ROUTE

Eat where you are

Morning: darshan ke baad temple-side breakfast. Lunch: Prabhas Patan/stay side before Bhalka. Evening: aarti/show ke baad nearby dinner—extra drive mat karein.

SMART BUDGET

Keep a buffer

Temple entry is listed free by the Trust, but local auto/cab, lockers, food, stay and peak-date pricing add up. Keep a small buffer for secure storage and return transport.

USE THIS BEFORE LEAVING

Small checks.
Big difference.

Leave electronics safely

The Somnath Trust says mobiles, cameras, smartwatches and other electronic equipment are prohibited inside. Use the free cloakroom/lockers and do not plan on using your phone during darshan.

Check official visitor rules ↗

Confirm aarti and show timing

Schedules can change for weather, monsoon, festivals and local arrangements. Check the Trust’s current details on the day before making an evening reservation.

Use a realistic local ride

Triveni is close to the temple, while Bhalka is a separate town-side stop. One direct auto/taxi sequence is simpler than booking multiple point-to-point rides.

What to skip when time is short

With less than a full day, choose Somnath Temple and either Triveni or Bhalka. Do not put Gir safari, Diu or a long road trip into the same visit.

Timings, rules and access can change. This plan uses the Shree Somnath Trust, Gujarat Tourism and Gir Somnath district guidance. Recheck darshan, electronics policy, transport and weather before travelling.
