Kolaba Fort access depends on the tide, and ferry/boat services, sea conditions, water sports and beach access can change with weather. Check the current tide and operator details before leaving; use Feedback / Report an issue if you find an update.

RouteSathi guide update: October 2026 · Tide and live weather are final before a coastal outing.

ALIBAUG · RAIGAD · MAHARASHTRA

Alibaug, without
the beach-hopping rush.

Use one day for Alibaug town, Kolaba Fort and the nearby shore. Use a second day for the Kihim–Mandwa side. The tide decides the fort; the coast decides the pace.

01Tide decides the fortKolaba Fort is the first decision, not an afterthought. Put it in the safe tide window and keep a beach backup if access is not suitable.
02One coast side at a timeAlibaug–Varsoli and Kihim–Mandwa are better on separate blocks. Do not try every beach on one short weekend day.
03Ferry is not a fixed promiseFor a Mumbai ferry connection, check the live operator schedule and sea conditions before booking a stay or same-day return.

FIRST, CHOOSE YOUR PACE

How much Alibaug time do you really have?

One overnight is a focused coast-and-fort trip. Two days gives the northern Kihim–Mandwa side its own unhurried morning, rather than turning the trip into a traffic-and-parking loop.

YOUR READY COAST PLAN

Fort window first.
Beach time after.

Maharashtra Tourism lists Alibaug’s coast, Kolaba Fort, Kihim and nearby beaches among the Raigad highlights. This guide groups them by direction and gives Kolaba its needed tide window.

PLAN A · ONE NIGHT

Alibaug town, tide window and one easy shore

Use the live tide information to decide the fort block. If the tide is unsuitable or weather is rough, do not force it—move to beach time and keep the fort for another visit.

START

Confirm Kolaba Fort access before leaving

Check the current tide, weather and on-ground access. Carry water and footwear that can handle wet sand; do not attempt an unsafe crossing just to follow a plan.

KOLABA FORT

Explore only in a safe, accessible window

Kolaba Fort is the main heritage stop beside Alibaug Beach. Keep the tide window flexible instead of fixing a false clock time; local conditions and safety come first.

LUNCH · ALIBAUG TOWN

Eat before the coastal afternoon

Keep lunch near Alibaug town. It gives you a proper break after the fort instead of spending the middle of the day moving between distant beaches.

ALIBAUG BEACH

Town shore walk, not a rushed activity list

Walk the broad beach, slow down and check current beach conditions. Water activities are optional and should be booked only with a current, legitimate local operator.

VARSOLI BEACH

Finish nearby, not on another coast side

Varsoli is the calmer nearby finish for the day. Use it for sunset only if weather and return travel stay comfortable; avoid driving late simply to add another beach name.

PLAN B · TWO DAYS

The balanced Alibaug–Kihim plan

Use Day 1 for the town-and-fort side, then Day 2 for Kihim and Mandwa. This separates the two coastal directions and leaves enough time for a ferry connection or road journey.

2 coast sidesNo forced beach list

DAY 1 · Alibaug–Varsoli

  1. Tide windowKolaba FortGo only in a safe, current access window; retain Alibaug Beach as the flexible alternative.
  2. 13:00Lunch in Alibaug townStay local so the afternoon does not become a driving loop.
  3. 15:30–18:30Alibaug + Varsoli shoreChoose one relaxed beach walk and a comfortable sunset finish.

DAY 2 · Kihim–Mandwa side

  1. 08:30–10:30Kihim BeachKeep this for an early quiet beach block, not a packed water-sports schedule.
  2. 11:15–12:15Mandwa coastUse the harbour-side coast as a short separate stop; confirm live boat/ferry details before relying on it.
  3. After lunchReturnUse the road or a confirmed ferry plan. Keep a weather buffer instead of booking a tight onward connection.

PLAN C · BEFORE YOU BOOK

Check coast conditions before the hotel

Alibaug is easier when you let live tide, ferry and weather information decide the exact order. A hotel booking does not make a fort crossing, boat or water activity safe.

4 checksBefore travel day
01 · FORT ACCESS

Check the tide window

Kolaba Fort access is tide-dependent. Check current local conditions on the day and do not treat an old blog time as final.

02 · SEA TRAVEL

Confirm ferry live

If using a Mumbai–Mandwa ferry connection, confirm its current operator schedule and weather status before booking a tight return.

03 · COASTAL SAFETY

Keep water plans flexible

Monsoon, currents, beach conditions and local permissions can change. Use only a current, licensed local operator where applicable.

Simple rule:One fort window, one beach side and one comfortable return plan make a better Alibaug trip than trying to tick off every beach around Raigad.

ONLY WITH EXTRA TIME

More coast,
not more rush.

Add one of these only after the focused Alibaug–Kihim plan. Each needs its own travel time and current local condition check.

SOUTH SIDE · EXTRA HALF DAY

Nagaon Beach

A separate south-side beach option. Use it only when you have an extra half day rather than adding it after Kihim and Mandwa.

Open Nagaon in Maps ↗
SOUTH SIDE · QUIET COAST

Akshi Beach

A quieter coastal stop near the Nagaon side. Pair it with one south-side beach day, not with a rushed Alibaug loop.

Open Akshi in Maps ↗
HILL + TEMPLE · LONGER BLOCK

Kanakeshwar

Use this only when you want a separate hill-and-temple outing. Do not squeeze it between a fort tide window and beach sunset.

Open Kanakeshwar in Maps ↗
HISTORY + COAST · EXTRA DAY

Chaul

Chaul’s historical sites work as their own extra half- or full-day interest, not a quick stop between distant beaches.

BOOK & PREPARE WELL

Plan the coast
with less confusion.

Pehle tide aur weather dekho, phir fort/shore order decide karo. Mumbai se ferry use kar rahe ho to live operator schedule ke bina tight return plan mat banao.

FORT WINDOW

Let tide decide

Kolaba Fort access must follow current local tide and safety conditions. Keep Alibaug Beach as a flexible alternative.

TRANSPORT BUFFER

Keep ferry flexible

Confirm live ferry/boat details with the actual operator. Sea weather and service conditions can change, especially in monsoon.

COASTAL ROUTE

One direction per day

Day 1 stays around Alibaug–Varsoli. Day 2 goes toward Kihim–Mandwa. This leaves time to enjoy the coast rather than sit in a car.
