KHAJURAHO · MADHYA PRADESH

Khajuraho, without
the rushing.

Start with the masterworks, keep the Jain and southern temples on one sensible route, and do nature as a separate day. This is your ready-to-use Khajuraho plan.

01 No zig-zagWestern, Eastern/Jain and Southern temples stay in natural clusters.
02 Real time blocksMorning is for the Western Group; distant temples get their own route.
03 Built for your timeOne day is focused; two days feels complete.

FIRST, CHOOSE YOUR PACE

How many days do you have?

Khajuraho has Western, Eastern/Jain and Southern temple groups. Do not squeeze a nature outing into the temple days.

YOUR READY ROUTE

Follow the route.
See the story.

Use a cab/auto for the Eastern and Southern groups. Walking is best inside the Western Group. Keep ticket and gate-time checks for the morning of your visit.

PLAN A · ONE DAY

The essential Khajuraho route

Choose this only with one complete day. Western Group is the priority; finish Eastern/Jain and Southern temples in one outward route.

8–9 hrs Best start: 7:30 AM
Western Group Lunch Eastern/Jain Southern Group

BREAKFAST · WESTERN GROUP SIDE

Eat near your hotel / Western Group

Start close to the main complex. Keep breakfast quick: the Western Group needs cool morning hours and unhurried walking.

MAIN VISIT · WESTERN GROUP

Western Group: Lakshmana → Kandariya → Devi Jagadambi → Chitragupta

Walk the principal UNESCO complex slowly. Kandariya Mahadeva is the key stop; also give time to Lakshmana, Vishvanatha/Nandi, Devi Jagadambi, Chitragupta and Varaha. Do not rush through just for photographs.

Allow: 3–3½ hrs · Ticketed entry can apply; confirm current gate and ticket details.

LUNCH · KHAJURAHO

Lunch before the eastern route

Eat near your hotel or town centre, refill water and then take a cab/auto east. Keep the afternoon route in one direction.

EASTERN + JAIN GROUP

Brahma → Vamana → Javari → Parsvanatha Jain Temple

Start at Brahma Temple near Khajuraho Sagar, then follow the eastern route to Vamana and Javari. End at the Jain group, where Parsvanatha is the main detailed stop.

SOUTHERN GROUP · FINAL STOP

Duladeo → Chaturbhuj Temple

Continue south instead of returning to the Western Group. Duladeo and Chaturbhuj are about five kilometres south of the village; finish calmly and return for dinner.

PLAN B · TWO DAYS

Khajuraho, properly explored

This is our recommendation. Day 1 gives Western Group its time; Day 2 links the Eastern/Jain and Southern groups without forcing a rushed temple day.

2 full days Most balanced plan

DAY 1 · Western Group

  1. 08:00 Breakfast near Western GroupBegin early and walk into the main complex.
  2. 08:45 Western Group monumentsLakshmana, Kandariya Mahadeva, Vishvanatha/Nandi, Devi Jagadambi, Chitragupta and Varaha. Allow 3½–4 hours.
  3. 13:00 Lunch and restUse the hottest hours for food and a break.
  4. 16:30 Matangeshwar Temple / town walkKeep the evening local. Ask locally about any current cultural show and timing rather than relying on an old schedule.
  5. 19:00 Dinner near your stayDo not add a distant temple after dark.

DAY 2 · East, Jain & South

  1. 08:30 Breakfast in KhajurahoArrange an auto/cab for the connected outer route.
  2. 09:15 Brahma, Vamana & JavariFollow the eastern Hindu temples in order.
  3. 11:30 Parsvanatha, Adinatha & ShantinathaExplore the Jain group respectfully; allow extra time for Parsvanatha.
  4. 13:30 Lunch in townReturn once for lunch, then continue south.
  5. 16:00 Duladeo + ChaturbhujFinish the southern temples and return before night.

PLAN C · EXTRA DAY

Nature, not another rushed route

Keep the two temple days unchanged. On an extra day choose only one: Raneh Falls/Ken Gharial Sanctuary or a booked Panna Tiger Reserve safari.

1 extra day Nature outing
OPTION 1

Raneh Falls

Use a half/full day for the canyon and falls. It is around 22 km from Khajuraho; conditions and water flow vary by season.

OPTION 2

Panna Tiger Reserve

Choose this only with a confirmed safari permit/slot. It is not a casual temple-evening add-on.

EVENING

Return to Khajuraho

Keep the evening free for dinner, packing or a local cultural programme if officially confirmed for your date.

Why 2 days is best: You see all three temple groups properly. Raneh Falls and Panna are rewarding, but they deserve their own day.

DO NOT MISS THESE

More of Khajuraho,
when you have time.

Add these in the suggested cluster only. This keeps the temple experience practical instead of turning it into random cab rides.

WESTERN GROUP · DAY 1

Chausath Yogini Temple

An early granite shrine of the Western Group. Add it only when you have time after the main complex.

JAIN GROUP · DAY 2

Parsvanatha Temple

The largest Jain temple in the eastern area. Do not skip it for a rushed market stop.

NATURE · EXTRA DAY

Raneh Falls

Keep it separate from temples; access and water flow should be checked locally, especially in the rainy season.

PLAN LIKE A LOCAL

Stay, eat & spend
with less confusion.

Khajuraho ko temple list ki tarah mat dekho. Western Group ke paas raho, group-wise route follow karo aur nature day ko alag rakho.

WHERE TO STAY

Stay near Western Group

Western Group / town centre: first visit ke liye best base. Restaurants aur Day 1 walking route paas rahenge.

FOOD BY ROUTE

Eat where you are

Day 1: Western Group side. Day 2: eastern route ke beech town mein lunch, then southern temples. Unnecessary crossing mat karein.

SMART BUDGET

Keep a buffer

Entry ticket, cab/auto, water and guide ke liye buffer rakhein. Panna safari ka permit alag planned expense hai.

Have one extra day?

Raneh Falls ya Panna Tiger Reserve choose karein—dono ko ek rushed day mein mat jodiye. Safari permit aur current weather pehle verify karein.

USE THIS BEFORE LEAVING

Small checks.
Big difference.

Western Group first

The Western Group is the key UNESCO complex and works best in the morning. Confirm current entry gate, ticket and closure details before leaving.

Temple etiquette

These are active sacred spaces as well as monuments. Dress respectfully, remove shoes where required and follow photography rules at each location.

Use one cab for Day 2

Eastern/Jain and Southern groups are best done in one vehicle route. Ask the driver to wait, or agree on the complete route before starting.

Start navigation ↗

Nature is a separate day

Do not add Raneh Falls or Panna after a full temple day. Check safari booking, seasonal access and weather directly before planning it.

Timings change. This route is built from the official three-cluster temple layout and current tourism guidance. Confirm tickets, gate timings, local show schedules, safari slots and weather before travelling.
