PACHMARHI · QUEEN OF SATPURA

Forest days,
done without a rush.

Arrive, rest, then give Pachmarhi two full days: waterfalls and forest on one day; caves, valleys and town on the next. Keep a third sightseeing day only for a trek or safari.

01Permit before routeForest-side places can require a permit and authorised vehicle.
02One circuit per dayFalls and viewpoints are grouped so you do not drive back and forth.
03Weather decidesWaterfall access and forest timings can change with rain, fog or local orders.

FIRST, PICK YOUR TIME

How long do you have?

Do not count the Pipariya/Bhopal transfer as sightseeing time. Pachmarhi is better when you slow down.

DO THIS FIRST

Permit, vehicle
and weather check.

Book or ask early

Before breakfast, confirm that day's forest permit and authorised Gypsy/vehicle at the local forest counter or through the official permit system. Weekend queues can be longer.

Open official forest portal ↗

Wednesday warning

Forest sightseeing is commonly restricted from Wednesday afternoon for maintenance. Do town sights, arrival or market on Wednesday, and confirm at the gate.

Wear the right shoes

Bee Fall, Apsara Vihar, Reechgarh, caves and Chauragarh involve steps, uneven rocks or short trails. Carry water; do not rely on slippers.

Monsoon rule

Beautiful season, but access, visibility and water levels can change quickly. Never enter a closed trail or cross a flowing stream.

YOUR READY ROUTE

Forest first.
Town second.

Times are practical estimates, not a promise. Start early and accept a changed plan when forest staff close a point for weather or safety.

DAY 0 · ARRIVAL

Reach, settle, breathe.

Pipariya is about 54 km by road. After check-in, do not chase waterfalls; save energy for the two proper days ahead.

EASY EVENING

Pachmarhi Lake and a short market walk

Use this time to buy water, rain cover and snacks for tomorrow. Ask your hotel or the official counter about permit, vehicle and weather status.

DINNER

Eat close to your stay

Do not take a long detour on arrival. Choose a clean, busy place near the market or hotel and rest early.

DAY 1 · FOREST & WATERFALLS

The waterfall circuit

Keep this day for the forest-side places. Start at the permit counter, follow the authorised route and finish at Dhoopgarh sunset only if weather is clear.

Permit and vehicle confirmation

Confirm the day’s open points, exit time and vehicle arrangement before leaving. Do not pay an unofficial person without a receipt or clear booking detail.

WATERFALL

Bee Fall (Jamuna Prapat)

Go early for cooler steps and less crowd. It involves a downhill/uphill walk; allow time for the climb back.

POOL & TRAIL

Apsara Vihar / Panchali Kund

A shorter downhill trail and natural pool area. Follow local safety directions; avoid swimming when water conditions are unsafe.

ROCK FORMATION

Reechgarh

Uneven natural cave terrain; go slowly and skip it if anyone in your group is uncomfortable with rough walking.

VIEWPOINT

Dhoopgarh sunset

Highest point in the Satpuras. On foggy or rainy days, skip the sunset chase and return before the forest exit time.

DAY 2 · CAVES, VALLEYS & TOWN

Pachmarhi beyond the falls

Less water, more landscape and history. This circuit is easier to adapt if the forest route is partly restricted.

CAVE SHRINE

Jata Shankar

A rocky cave shrine with steps and uneven ground. Visit respectfully and give elders/children extra time on the descent.

VIEWPOINT CIRCUIT

Handi Khoh and Priyadarshini Point

Keep these viewpoints together. Priyadarshini is associated with Captain Forsyth’s view of the valley; do not cross barriers for photos.

LUNCH

Back in town

Return towards town for lunch rather than searching for food deep in the forest. Keep water and simple snacks in your bag.

HERITAGE

Pandav Caves and Bison Museum

An easy heritage stop near town. Use the remaining evening for the lake or market—not another long forest drive.

EXTRA DAY · PICK ONE

Give the big experience
its own day.

Do not squeeze an exhausting trek or real wildlife safari after two packed sightseeing days.

FOR FIT TRAVELLERS

Chauragarh trek

A temple climb with many steps. Start early, carry water and make it the main event of the day—especially for families or first-time trekkers.

WILDLIFE DAY

Satpura Tiger Reserve safari

This is different from Pachmarhi sightseeing. Book the designated safari separately, follow its permit/guide rules and check seasonal availability.

Check official permit portal ↗
SPIRITUAL OUTING

Mahadeo & Gupt Mahadev

Choose this as a quieter cave-temple day, subject to access. Gupt Mahadev is narrow inside, so it may not suit everyone.

STAY SMART

Where to stay

Stay near the main market/cantonment for easy dinners and vehicle pickup. Book ahead for weekends, holidays and monsoon.

See current stays in Maps ↗

BEFORE YOU LEAVE

Small checks.
Better hill trip.

Save offline maps

Mobile signal can be patchy on forest roads. Download the day’s route before leaving town.

Food without guessing

Use current Maps reviews for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Carry a refillable bottle and dry snacks for forest hours.

Family reality check

Do not force Bee Fall steps, Reechgarh or Chauragarh on anyone who cannot walk safely. Pick lake, caves and viewpoints instead.
